The US State Department has chosen not to renew the protective services contract of ArmorGroup North America for their work at the embassy in Kabul. "The recent allegations of misconduct and various contract compliance deficiencies led us to conclude it was in the best interest of the government to compete a new contract," said P.J. Crowley, assistant secretary of state for public affairs.

I would say this counts as “contract compliance deficiencies”. America, cluck ya.

The Afghan army has increased its wages “close to” those of the Taliban. In the first 7 days of December, after the pay raise, the army fielded 2,600 new recruits compared with 4,303 in all of November.

Pakistan is tightening the flow of hawala, the informal transfer of money, in an attempt to quell contributions to terrorist groups. The Pak govt believes that three years ago $4b was entering the country through legitimate channels while $6b was transferred through hawala. Pakistan's central bank governor believes that more than 75% of all money transferred to Pakistan from the Middle East and elsewhere is now monitored by the government.
